Unfortunately, it has become more common and ranges from minor to severe depending on the parent. This method of correction has been passed down through generations and the history of it is a major contribution to the problem. Just because it happens does not mean it is acceptable. The desired results are rarely achieved and the children are negatively impacted for the rest of their lives. Corporal punishment needs to be eliminated as a means of behavior modification due to its ineffectiveness and cruelty.
